Home for Activism

“At Sadie Nash, home represents a soft place to land, where young people can join our programs and safely be in community and become their own selves. And to find home, we must create it.”

- Tené Howard, Executive Director

Inspired by bell hook’s Homeplace: A Site of Resistance, the concept of “home” is described as a space where one can flourish and become the subject in one’s own life rather than an object for someone else. For two decades, Sadie Nash has been a home for the radical work of gender and racial justice, creating a container for the brilliance and dynamism of young people.

We provide opportunities for young people to step into their confidence and purpose, encouraging them to experiment and evolve into the best version of themselves. In November of 2022, we held our first Home for Activism event featuring a conversation between ELLA alums, Rana Abdelhamid and Imani Maliti, and moderated by Sadie Nash alum Jenna Caldwell.

Home for Activism 2023: Creating Connection

We celebrated the second installment of our Home for Activism event on November 2, 2023.

This event launched our Alumni Council to support the key needs of Sadie Nash through mobilizing the talent, expertise, time, and resources of its members.

Home for Activism 2023 also included a panel with alumni panelists Talia Scott, Nicolas Cortez, Najah Aldridge, and our alumni moderator Rasha Kadir.
