SADIE NASH LEADERSHIP PROJECT, ALONG WITH FOURTEEN MORE YOUTH ORGANIZATIONS, RECOGNIZE SECOND ANNUAL #GIVINGYOUTHDAY, A COLLABORATIVE, COMMUNITY-BASED APPROACH TO POPULAR DONATION DAY, #GIVINGTUESDAY

New York, NY —  On December 1st, fifteen youth organizations across NYC will unite to participate in "#GivingYouthday," an initiative, spearheaded by Sadie Nash Leadership Project inspired by the widely recognized #GivingTuesday. #GivingTuesday, a global movement for charitable giving, takes place annually on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving with the goal of moving away from the consumerism that is rampant that time of year. #GivingYouthDay will take place on the Monday before #GivingTuesday, with a distinct focus on elevating the voices and agency of young people while leaning into the power of community collaboration.

Sadie Nash Leadership Project (SNLP), is an award-winning youth organization in NYC and Newark, NJ that serves young women and gender-expansive youth of color. SNLP organized this initiative, in reaction to the increasingly competitive nature of #GivingTuesday among nonprofits. SNLP chose to take a different approach– one that encourages cooperation over competition. By launching #GivingYouthDay in partnership with other youth organizations, SNLP and its partners aim to create a spirit of generosity that centers on community care, collaboration, and the powerful potential of young people.

Marissa Hatten, Senior Director of Strategic Advancement at Sadie Nash Leadership Project, underscored the importance of expanded collaboration this year: “This year, we’re expanding our reach at a moment when it’s more critical than ever. Young people deserve real safety nets and real opportunities because when those supports are missing at this age, it impacts their whole lives. At Sadie Nash, we’re committed to building those safety nets with our community, not in competition with it. That’s why we’re doubling down on collaboration and deepening our relationships with youth organizations across the region so we can uplift more young people together. This is how we strengthen the ecosystem our young people rely on.”

Sadie Nash is joined by Armory Foundation, Butterfly Dreamz, Day One, Figure Skating in Harlem, Girls Justice League, Girls for Gender Equity, Girls Write Now, JAIA Youth Empowerment, Octavia Project, Peace in Schools, Urban Youth Collaborative, WOW Project Inc, Wyckoff House Museum, and Youth Represent.

Each organization is excited to work together, expand communities, and ultimately support young people.
