Applications are due for Summer Insitute Faculty on May 1st. To give you a sense of what teaching at Sadie Nash is like, we are doing a series of short interviews with past faculty. Meet Maria Monica Andia! Monica taught a core class: Power, Identity, and Privilege (PIP) at our Manhattan Summer Institute in 2018.

How would you describe your experience teaching at Summer Institute?

Energizing, inquisitive, and fun!

Did teaching at Summer Institute impact the way you approach teaching? If so, how?

Definitely! My experience teaching PIP has informed how I facilitate generally, both for adults and other young people. I think it is because the PIP curriculum is so tied to by world view and personal beliefs that it requires that I bring my full self into the class and facilitate from a very authentic place.

Would you encourage people to apply to teach at Summer Institute?

Yes! Summer Institute is a very intimate experience. I would encourage all those who love being youth workers and facilitators to teach. You will have fun and expand your capacity to be a strong and dynamic teacher.

Anything else to share?

I love my Nashers and Deans. I feel very lucky to have been able to step into community with them.

Thank you Monica for sharing!!
